Recent polling averages show President Trump's job approval hovering near 35-38 percent amid a stalemated conflict with Iran and elevated gas prices, with net ratings reaching second-term lows around -20 to -25 in trackers updated through early August. Weekly shifts remain tightly balanced because short-term poll movements often reflect sampling variance and modest rebounds rather than sustained trends, keeping trader consensus near even odds. Key variables that could move the needle include any verifiable diplomatic progress on Iran that eases energy costs, new economic data on inflation or employment, or further escalation that reinforces public pessimism ahead of the midterms.
