Recent National Weather Service and model guidance shows Chicago cooling from mid-90s heat on September 3–4 as northeast winds strengthen, advecting cooler, more stable air off Lake Michigan. This lake-breeze moderation, combined with partly cloudy skies and only a slight morning shower chance, supports daytime maxima centered in the low-to-mid 80s on the 5th. Historical climatology places the long-term average high near 80°F, so current conditions sit slightly above normal yet well below recent peaks. Forecast spread across ensembles—driven by exact wind direction, boundary-layer mixing, and any residual cloud cover—keeps the 78–83°F range tightly bunched in trader pricing, with lower odds attached to either stronger onshore flow or unexpected clearing that could push readings a few degrees higher or lower. Updated model runs and afternoon observations will refine the final maximum before market resolution.
