Alabama's 2nd congressional district enters the 2026 cycle under a redrawn map approved after the Supreme Court upheld the legislature's plan, shifting boundaries away from the incumbent Democrat's Mobile base and incorporating more Republican-leaning Wiregrass counties. This change has produced a district that leans Republican on recent voting patterns, prompting Cook Political Report and other analysts to rate the seat as Likely Republican. Incumbent Shomari Figures (D) faces primary competition on the Democratic side, while multiple Republicans compete in the August 11 primary for the nomination. These structural shifts and the resulting partisan composition have driven trader consensus toward the Republican nominee as the stronger favorite in the general election.
