Recent monthly CPI readings in China have hovered between 0.5% and 1.2% year-over-year through July 2026, with the latest print easing to 0.5% amid softer non-food prices and continued food deflation driven by abundant pork supplies and subdued consumer spending. Analysts cite persistent weak domestic demand, despite prior stimulus measures, alongside moderating transport costs from lower global energy prices as key drivers keeping annual averages contained near 1%. Forecasts from institutions such as the ADB and Trading Economics point to a full-year 2026 rate around 0.9–1.2%, aligning with the market's heaviest weighting on the 0.6–1.0% band. Core inflation remains stable near 0.9%, while producer prices show only modest improvement, reinforcing trader consensus around subdued outcomes absent stronger demand recovery or external shocks.
