Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from his Barcelona Open round-of-16 matchup against Tomas Machac due to a right wrist injury aggravated during his first-round straight-sets win over qualifier Otto Virtanen on April 14, prompting a medical timeout and post-match tests. The world No. 2, entering with 14 straight clay-court victories, strong surface history at this ATP 500 home event, and top seeding, gifted Czech No. 47 Machac a walkover into the quarterfinals against the Rublev-Sonego winner. Their head-to-head is tied 1-1 on hard courts, marking a clay debut that never materialized; Machac showed resilience by outlasting Sebastian Baez in three sets, building momentum amid Alcaraz's physical concerns ahead of French Open prep.
