James McCabe enters as the 60% trader favorite against qualifier Kaichi Uchida in the first round of the Gwangju Challenger on outdoor hard courts, reflecting his youth at 22, slightly superior ATP ranking of 235 to Uchida's 238, and stronger 2026 record amid closer recent form. Both lost in Busan Challenger R32 last week—McCabe pushing seeded Alex Bolt to 7-5, 7-6(2), while Uchida fell 6-4, 7-5 to Alexis Galarneau—highlighting McCabe's competitive edge against higher opposition. No head-to-head exists, but McCabe's higher Elo rating (250 vs. Uchida's lower mark) and direct main-draw entry versus Uchida's qualifying effort underscore the consensus on hard-court dynamics, with no reported injuries.
