Casper Ruud, the ninth seed and elite clay-court performer with multiple Monte Carlo deep runs, holds a stylistic edge over Alexei Popyrin in their Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters Round of 64 clash on outdoor clay. Popyrin leads their head-to-head 1-0 after a gritty 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 third-round upset over Ruud here last year, boosting his confidence on the surface. Arriving with fresh momentum from a Houston quarterfinal run—beating Patrick Kypson 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 before a tight loss to Frances Tiafoe—Popyrin's big serve could disrupt Ruud's rhythm. Ruud's baseline consistency and movement favor him in best-of-three sets, with no injury concerns reported for either amid favorable weather.
