The New York Yankees host the Kansas City Royals in a key early-season AL matchup at Yankee Stadium starting April 17, with probable pitchers still TBD amid both teams' elite rotations—Royals at 2.56 ERA (second in MLB) and Yankees at 2.50. Yankees (9-8) lead trader consensus over Royals (7-10) due to home-field advantage, dominant 14-3 head-to-head record over the past three seasons, and stronger playoff odds trajectory. Recent Royals setbacks include Isaac Collins' knee injury sidelining him in their April 15 loss to Detroit, plus bullpen woes with Carlos Estevez (foot), Bailey Falter (elbow), and James McArthur (elbow) on the injured list; Yankees miss Gerrit Cole (elbow), Carlos Rodón (elbow), and Anthony Volpe (shoulder rehab). Michael Massey's return bolsters Royals' infield, but travel fatigue post-Tigers series could factor.
