Pittsburgh Pirates hold a 2-1 series lead over the Washington Nationals entering Thursday's finale at PNC Park, bolstered by a 2-0 shutout victory yesterday behind strong starting pitching from C. Mlodzinski. Both teams turn to reliable early-season arms with Foster Griffin (2-0, 1.76 ERA) for the Nationals and Braxton Ashcraft (1-1, 2.12 ERA) for the Pirates, but Washington's rotation and bullpen are strained by multiple injured list stints including Ken Waldichuk (forearm), Cole Henry (shoulder), and several elbow cases on the 60-day IL. Pirates (11-7, first in NL Central, 6-3 home) show better recent form (6-4 last 10, 3.06 team ERA) than the Nationals (8-10, fourth in NL East), with Pittsburgh's hitters like Oneil Cruz providing momentum amid mild 81-degree weather.
