Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has emerged as the early leader in the 2027 Best Picture race after its July release generated strong critical praise and robust box-office results, positioning the summer tentpole as the frontrunner in trader sentiment. Multiple studios are mounting campaigns behind titles including “Dune: Part Three,” “Digger,” “Wild Horse Nine,” “Project Hail Mary,” and “Fjord,” while fall festivals beginning with Venice and Telluride will deliver key reviews and guild signals. Historical precedent favors films with broad industry support and strong precursors, though late-breaking contenders from Toronto and New York can quickly shift momentum before nominations voting opens in January 2027.
