The open Rio Grande do Sul Senate race for two seats on October 4 features a fragmented field after incumbents Luis Carlos Heinze and Paulo Paim opted not to seek reelection. Late-July Paraná Pesquisas polling shows Manuela d’Ávila, Marcel Van Hattem, Germano Rigotto, Paulo Pimenta, Frederico Antunes, and Ubiratan Sanderson clustered within a narrow margin, reflecting fluid voter preferences before formal campaigning begins and coalitions finalize. A July pre-candidate debate highlighted issues such as STF minister impeachment and state debt with the Union. With no dominant contender emerging yet, trader consensus prices multiple outcomes near 20-50% for second place, underscoring how coalition definitions, turnout patterns among key voting blocs, and additional polling could create separation ahead of the single-round vote.
