The S&P 500 index notched its first close above 7,000 on April 15, 2026, lifting SPY ETF shares to an intraday peak of $700.28 as traders priced in de-escalation of US-Iran tensions, erasing all prior war-related losses from March lows in an 8% rally. Tame March PPI (core +0.1% month-over-month) bolstered rate cut hopes, with mega-cap tech and banks driving gains amid curling higher EMAs and declining VIX. Key support holds at $690, while technical extensions eye $716. Watch Q1 bank earnings kickoff, Philadelphia Fed manufacturing survey, and ongoing inflation data for volatility through April's remainder.
