Silver spot prices (XAG/USD) plunged over 3% early in the week of May 4, 2026, testing one-month lows near $72.47 amid hawkish Federal Reserve signals, rising Treasury yields, and U.S. dollar strength that pressured precious metals. A swift rebound followed, with prices surging more than 10% to $81.11 by May 8, fueled by dollar weakness, recovering risk appetite, and persistent supply deficits projected at 46 million ounces for 2026 by the Silver Institute, alongside robust industrial demand from solar and electronics sectors. Trader sentiment on Polymarket reflects this volatility, pricing high probabilities for mid-$70s thresholds amid thin volume; watch upcoming May CPI data and FOMC minutes for rate path clarity influencing further moves.
