Stratford’s October 26, 2026 mayoral contest remains closely contested among five certified candidates after nominations closed August 21, with incumbent Martin Ritsma holding a modest edge in trader pricing ahead of councillors Jo-Dee Burbach and Mark Hunter, architect Robert Ritz, and resident Andrew Rea. The narrow 2022 result, in which Ritsma defeated Ritz by roughly 345 votes, combined with the absence of public polling and a fragmented field of experienced municipal figures, has kept implied probabilities compressed in the at-large system. Recent confirmation of the candidate list, including limited withdrawals, has reinforced uncertainty over voter preferences on local priorities such as housing development, infrastructure, fiscal accountability, and the provincial Strong Mayor powers. Clear separation could emerge from candidate forums, endorsements by sitting councillors, or shifts in turnout among voters focused on development pace before election day.
