Recent July CPI data cooling to 3.4% year-over-year from 3.5% has anchored trader expectations for the August print near current levels, with the Cleveland Fed nowcast pointing to 3.36%. Muted monthly gains in shelter and energy components, alongside a core rate at 2.5%, support the market's tight clustering around 3.3-3.4% as the base case. Persistent above-target readings continue to influence Fed policy deliberations, while upcoming August economic releases and any shifts in commodity prices or labor costs represent key swing factors that could tilt the outcome. Market-implied odds reflect aggregated positioning backed by real capital amid these near-term data dependencies.
