China's annual CPI inflation for 2026 trades with 0.6–1.0% as the clear favorite amid subdued domestic demand and persistent soft price pressures. July 2026 data showed headline inflation easing to 0.5% year-on-year—the lowest since January—driven by ongoing food price declines (notably pork amid ample supply) and slower non-food gains after fuel-price adjustments and easing global energy costs. Core CPI held near 0.9%, while full-year 2025 printed flat, missing the official target and underscoring weak consumption despite stimulus measures such as trade-in programs. Forecasts from institutions including the ADB and Trading Economics cluster around 0.8–1.2%, reflecting expectations that policy easing and modest recovery will keep readings in the low-positive range without reacceleration. Weak producer prices and structural factors like excess capacity continue to cap upside risks, supporting trader consensus around the sub-1% band.
