Trump's endorsement positioned Byron Donalds as the clear frontrunner in Florida's August 18, 2026, Republican gubernatorial primary, driving strong support from party voters and establishment figures despite Ron DeSantis questioning his viability as successor. Donalds, a U.S. representative, led polls throughout the cycle and secured the nomination with roughly 48 percent of the vote in a crowded field that included DeSantis-aligned lieutenant governor Jay Collins and former House Speaker Paul Renner. The state party canceled debates after Donalds alone met fundraising and polling thresholds, limiting opportunities for challengers to close the gap. These dynamics shaped trader assessments of his final primary vote share ahead of certification.
