The vacancy in the White House press secretary role since Karoline Leavitt's departure at the end of August 2026 has led the administration to rotate cabinet officials through briefings, as President Trump indicated would continue temporarily. This structure spreads opportunities across multiple figures rather than concentrating them on Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who last filled in during Leavitt's maternity leave in May. Current trader consensus assigns near-certainty to other outcomes because no schedule or announcement singles out Bessent for the immediate next session while he focuses on congressional testimony regarding economic policy and Iran-related matters. A realistic challenge to this positioning would require an explicit White House directive assigning him the next briefing amid the ongoing rotation.

Resolution is based on who actually delivers the briefing from the podium, not on who is listed or announced in advance. If the individual scheduled or announced to give a briefing does not ultimately lead it, this market will resolve to the individual who does. An individual who appears at a qualifying briefing only as a guest, or who speaks only after being introduced by the individual leading the briefing, will not qualify.
For the purposes of this market, a White House press briefing is an event listed on the public White House schedule as a press briefing. Any such briefing will qualify, even if the individual leading it has not been formally announced as the Press Secretary or as an acting or interim Press Secretary. "New Media" briefings and special briefings including additional guests will qualify, so long as the individual leads the briefing.
Impromptu press gaggles, and remarks that are not listed on the public schedule as a press briefing, will not qualify.
If two or more individuals jointly lead the next qualifying briefing, this market will resolve to the individual who speaks first.
If no qualifying White House press briefing occurs by September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other".
This market will resolve based on footage of the briefing, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting.
