Current ensemble forecasts from regional models place Cape Town’s August 21 maximum near 17–19 °C under mostly cloudy skies and moderate onshore flow, consistent with the seasonal average high of 18 °C at the airport station. Trader positioning favoring 21–23 °C (combined ~75 % implied probability) appears driven by uncertainty in frontal timing and boundary-layer mixing: a slightly delayed or weaker cold front could allow greater daytime heating, while reduced cloud cover would increase shortwave radiation. Key variables include 10 m wind direction, which modulates the marine layer, and any late-day clearing that could push the peak 1–2 °C above guidance. Updated SAWS and global model runs over the next 48 hours will narrow the range ahead of market resolution.
