In the BMW Open round of 16 on Munich's clay courts, No. 56 Daniel Altmaier faces qualifier Alex Molcan in their first head-to-head matchup, with trader consensus reflecting Altmaier's home-crowd edge and steady ranking against Molcan's resurgent form. Altmaier advanced yesterday by outlasting veteran Marin Cilic 6-2, 6-3 after dropping the first set, marking a rebound from his 3-10 start to 2026 amid earlier set-win droughts. Molcan, ranked around No. 166, stunned No. 11 seed Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-2 in straight sets, building on his recent Bucharest upset over top seed Gabriel Diallo. Both show clay competence—Altmaier with prior Challenger success, Molcan leveraging lefty spin—but fatigue from qualifiers and potential rain delays could factor in this best-of-three affair.
