The US Dollar Index (DXY) traded in a tight 98.5–99.7 range during the week of August 31, 2026, pressured by shifting Fed rate-hike probabilities and Treasury debt-management actions. Hawkish dissents at the July FOMC meeting and hotter-than-expected July inflation data initially lifted September hike odds above 40 percent, while softer consumer confidence, retail sales, and housing figures capped gains. Treasury expansion of long-end buybacks lowered term premia and weighed on the dollar, offsetting support from rising Treasury yields and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Jackson Hole speeches and the August nonfarm payrolls release (released shortly after) provided the key near-term catalysts, with markets pricing roughly one additional 25-basis-point hike by year-end against a 3.50–3.75 percent federal funds target.
