The 2026 Burnaby, BC mayoral election is currently scheduled to be held on October 17, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next mayor of Burnaby as a result of this election. If the result of this election isn't known by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". The primary resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting; however, if there is any ambiguity in the results, this market will resolve according to official information from Burnaby.Mike Hurley, the incumbent independent mayor first elected in 2018 and acclaimed in 2022, holds overwhelming trader consensus due to his established local support, cross-party backing from groups including the Burnaby Citizens Association, and the absence of major organized opposition entering the October 17, 2026, general local election. Recent confirmation of his third-term bid in early August has reinforced this positioning, with declared challengers such as Heymann Yip and Michael Angelo registering minimal implied probability amid low early visibility and limited campaign infrastructure. Factors sustaining the frontrunner advantage include voter familiarity, council continuity despite some retiring members, and historically low turnout that favors established figures. Late developments within the September nomination window or unforeseen shifts in local priorities could still introduce volatility before advance voting begins.
