Canada's June 2026 monthly GDP release reflects a modest expansion amid mixed sectoral performance and lingering effects from a soft start to the year. Preliminary data point to 0.2% month-over-month growth, supported by gains in wholesale trade, finance and insurance, retail, and goods-producing industries tied to higher oil and gas output, while utilities and agriculture weighed on results. This follows a 0.3% May print and aligns with broader signs of cyclical rebound in household spending and net trade after Q1 contraction, though annual GDP forecasts remain subdued near 0.7-1.1% amid policy uncertainty. With outcomes clustered tightly between flat and 0.7% growth, trader sentiment hinges on final Statistics Canada revisions and upcoming labor and inflation releases that could shift implied probabilities.
