Incumbent Republican Mike Lawler faces Democrat Cait Conley in the November 2026 general election for New York’s 17th congressional district, a Hudson Valley seat that favored Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential contest. Lawler secured narrow victories in 2022 and 2024, prompting Democrats to target the race aggressively after Conley prevailed in the June 2026 Democratic primary. Recent polls show the contest within single digits, with forecasters classifying it a toss-up. Traders assign the Democratic nominee a 68% implied probability, reflecting the district’s underlying partisan lean, Lawler’s vulnerability in suburban areas, and Democratic efforts to flip House seats in the midterms.
