Early buzz around Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine, with its star-studded cast and September Venice premiere, has established it as the market frontrunner at 25% implied probability for Best Original Screenplay. Traders cite the writer-director’s prior Oscar success and positive early screenings as key momentum drivers. Cristian Mungiu’s Fjord and Curry Barker’s Obsession sit at 9% and 8%, respectively, reflecting auteur prestige and expected festival trajectories, while lower-odds titles like Digger, The Debut, and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma gain traction from recent premieres or strong reviews. With most 2026 releases still months away, the 50-50 split among many longshots underscores how guild nominations, critical consensus, and late-year releases will shape voting sentiment closer to the 2027 ceremony.
