The Huon Valley mayoral race remains wide open ahead of Tasmania’s October 27, 2026 local government elections, with nominations set to open September 7 and close September 21. Trader pricing reflects a fragmented field that includes incumbent Sally Doyle, current councillor Paul Gibson, Deputy Mayor Toby Thorpe, and Marshall Callaghan, none of whom has established a commanding lead. Recent council activity on township structure plans, infrastructure upgrades, and community facilities has kept the incumbent visible, yet the compulsory postal ballot and reduction in councillor numbers from nine to seven introduce additional uncertainty. A large pool of potential nominees and the absence of recent polling keep probabilities tightly clustered, with separation likely only after candidate lists finalize and early voting patterns emerge.
