Local government elections are scheduled to be held across Tasmania on October 27, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of the West Tamar Council area as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the result of the election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as declared by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (https://www.tec.tas.gov.au/).Rick Shegog leads the West Tamar mayoral market at 60.5% implied probability, reflecting his position as long-serving deputy mayor and councillor since 2007. Incumbent Mayor Christina Holmdahl’s July 2026 announcement that she would not seek another term after 16 years created an open contest for the October 2026 election, elevating Shegog’s profile while leaving room for challengers. Carl Cooper sits at 9.5% and Holmdahl at 3.7%, consistent with her withdrawal and limited late entry speculation. Multiple other candidates trade near even odds amid ongoing nomination interest and candidate information sessions held by council in August, underscoring a fragmented field without dominant polling or endorsements yet shifting the race. The Tasmanian Electoral Commission’s preferential voting system and compulsory turnout add further uncertainty until nominations close and preferences clarify.
