Recent June CPI data, featuring a 0.4% monthly headline decline driven by sharply lower energy prices following the US-Iran ceasefire, set a low base that positions July for potential rebound. Persistent shelter costs, wage-supported services inflation, and early tariff pass-through into goods continue to underpin expectations for a positive monthly print. With the July CPI release scheduled for August 12, market-implied odds heavily favor outcomes of 0.0% or higher, reflecting trader assessment of these sticky components amid a Federal Reserve funds rate held at 3.50–3.75%. Recent consumer inflation expectations rising to 3.7% further embed caution against further downside surprises.
