Incumbent Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul holds a strong position in the November 2026 general election, benefiting from name recognition and an uncontested primary win in August. Republican challenger Eric Toney, the Fond du Lac County district attorney, secured his nomination without opposition after a narrow 2022 loss to Kaul, but faces challenges in a race rated Lean Democratic by forecasters. Recent Republican Attorneys General Association ad reservations targeting crime and enforcement issues, combined with Wisconsin's 2024 presidential voting patterns, have kept the contest competitive yet tilted toward the incumbent. Low name identification for both candidates and limited polling on the attorney general matchup contribute to trader consensus around Kaul's edge, with potential movement tied to broader statewide turnout and legislative dynamics.
