Dusan Lajovic faces Luca Van Assche in the opening round of the 2026 Plava Laguna Croatia Open on clay in Umag, where the veteran Serbian draws on extensive experience at the ATP 250 event and regional support. Lajovic, ranked near 150 and with a modest 2-5 record in 2026, has historically performed better on the slower surface that rewards his baseline consistency and clay-court movement. Van Assche, the higher-ranked 22-year-old Frenchman sitting around No. 80-97 after multiple 2026 Challenger titles and a 41-27 win rate over the past year, brings superior recent form and athleticism but limited prior success against established clay specialists in main-draw ATP matches. Their only previous meeting came on hard courts, leaving surface-specific adjustments and Lajovic's familiarity with the conditions as key variables shaping trader views on the outcome.
