This market will resolve to "Yes" if the Pope convokes any ecumenical council between market creation and December 31, 2026, 11:59PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Only ecumenical councils will qualify. Plenary or provincial councils will not be considered. This market will resolve according to announcements from the Pope, Vatican officials, or a consensus of credible reporting. Any official announcement will qualify, regardless of if or when the council actually occurs.**Trader sentiment strongly favors "No" on a Vatican III in 2026, with the 91.3% market-implied probability reflecting the complete absence of any official announcement, preparatory documents, or curial signals for convening a new ecumenical council.** Pope Leo XIV has instead focused on deepening Vatican II’s legacy through ongoing catecheses on its constitutions, the September 2026 note affirming *Nostra Aetate*’s interreligious dialogue framework, and advancing the Synod on Synodality toward a 2028 Ecclesial Assembly. Historical precedent and prior papal comments—that the Church remains unready for a third council—further anchor the consensus, as full ecumenical councils require years of global preparation far beyond the remaining months of 2026. A late surprise convocation remains theoretically possible but faces steep institutional and logistical barriers that would require dramatic shifts in Vatican priorities.
