Gold prices near $4,450–$4,600 per ounce in late August 2026 reflect a sharp recovery from July lows, fueled by fading market-implied odds of a September Federal Reserve rate hike after softer U.S. data on retail sales, housing, and consumer sentiment. A weaker dollar index near 99 and easing Treasury yields have reduced the opportunity cost for the non-yielding asset, while resumed ETF inflows and sustained central-bank purchases provide additional support. Sticky July PCE inflation at 3.7% and geopolitical tensions continue to influence positioning, with traders monitoring Fed Chair Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks and upcoming economic releases for signals on the near-term rate path. These dynamics underscore gold’s sensitivity to real yields and dollar strength ahead of September resolution.
