Global seismic activity has been quiet for major events since the M7.4 earthquake struck 126 km west-northwest of Ternate, Indonesia, on April 1, followed by tapering aftershocks, marking 15 days without another magnitude 7.0 or higher quake per USGS records. This pause follows a cluster of three M7+ events in late March (M7.5 Tonga, M7.3 Vanuatu, M7.3 near Luganville), consistent with the long-term worldwide average of about 15 such earthquakes annually along plate boundaries like the Pacific Ring of Fire. USGS's Advanced National Seismic System provides real-time global monitoring via thousands of seismometers, but short-term forecasting remains impossible due to the random nature of stress release on fault lines. Traders should watch daily USGS updates for any escalation in subduction zones such as Indonesia, Japan, or the Aleutians, as a single event anywhere resolves qualifying markets.

The resolution source for this market is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/browse/significant.php#sigdef).
If an earthquake of substantial size has occurred within this market's timeframe but not yet appeared on the resolution source, this market may remain open until the end of the month following resolution time or until the earthquake in question otherwise appears on the resolution source. If such an earthquake has not appeared on the resolution source by that date, another credible resolution source will be used.
After a qualifying earthquake is registered, this market will remain open for 24 hours to account for any revisions to its recorded magnitude. After 24 hours, this market will resolve according to the latest provided data.
