Nicolás Maduro faces a June 2027 trial in U.S. federal court on a four-count superseding indictment charging narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and related weapons offenses. He and his wife, Cilia Flores, pleaded not guilty after their January 2026 capture during a U.S. military operation and remain detained pending proceedings. Defense counsel filed motions in early September 2026 seeking dismissal on head-of-state immunity grounds and lack of jurisdiction over the narco-terrorism count, with a November 17 hearing scheduled on those arguments. Prosecutors must respond by October 2. The extended pretrial timeline, complex evidentiary requirements for proving every element of all counts, and historical patterns in similar high-stakes narcotics cases support trader consensus that a conviction on the full indictment remains uncertain before the December 31, 2027 resolution deadline.
