Lin Kuo-chang, the Democratic Progressive Party nominee, holds the strongest position in the November 28, 2026, Yilan County magistrate race due to consistent polling leads in head-to-head matchups against rivals and the party's established local networks. KMT legislator Wu Tsung-hsien, selected after a narrow primary victory over county council speaker Chang Sheng-te and a joint opposition poll edging out Taiwan People's Party contender Chen Wan-hui, trails as the main challenger but has struggled to consolidate factions or translate alliance efforts into broader support. Recent opposition scrutiny of Lin's state-owned enterprise board roles and compensation has not shifted the implied probabilities, while independent candidates remain marginal. The race remains sensitive to late-campaign turnout and any further cross-party coordination in the final weeks before voting.
