Andrey Rublev, seeded fifth and ranked around No. 15, advances trader consensus as the favorite after a composed straight-sets victory over Mariano Navone in the Barcelona Open first round, showcasing improved patience and variation on clay. Lorenzo Sonego, world No. 66, scraped past Pedro Martinez in a gritty opener but raised fitness flags with lingering wrist issues from prior tournaments and a fresh ankle tweak in the decider, limiting his baseline power and net forays. Their head-to-head stands at 3-2 for Rublev overall, yet Sonego leads 2-0 on clay, where his heavy topspin and serve can disrupt rhythm on the slower Real Club de Tenis Barcelona surface. No major injuries reported, but Sonego's physical state tempers upset potential in this ATP 500 round-of-16 clash.
