Andrey Rublev, seeded fifth at No. 15, enters his Barcelona Open round-of-16 clash against No. 66 Lorenzo Sonego as trader consensus favorite on the clay courts of Pista Rafa Nadal, buoyed by a 4-2 head-to-head edge overall and straight-sets first-round win over Mariano Navone (6-4, 7-5) on April 15. Sonego, returning from a three-month injury layoff with a 3-2 YTD record (1-0 clay), scraped past Pedro Martinez in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 6-4), highlighting potential rust despite his 2-1 clay H2H lead over Rublev. Rublev's 12-7 season mark and 2-1 clay start underscore baseline power suited to the surface, while Sonego's low match count tempers upset potential in this best-of-three affair.
