Andrey Rublev, the fifth seed and world No. 15, holds a commanding 4-1 head-to-head edge over No. 66 Lorenzo Sonego ahead of their Barcelona Open second-round clash on outdoor clay, with Rublev winning the last two encounters on hard courts in 2024 and 2025. Both advanced from opening rounds yesterday, Rublev dispatching clay specialist Mariano Navone 6-4, 7-5 in straight sets, while Sonego grinded past home favorite Pedro Martinez 6-2, 6-4 after dropping a set. Rublev's recent clay form includes a Monte Carlo second-round exit to Zizou Bergs following a win over Nuno Borges, underscoring his baseline power suited to the surface; Sonego arrives with grit but limited recent high-level clay exposure. No injuries reported, with sunny conditions around 19°C favoring baseline rallies.
