Fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev holds a 3-2 head-to-head edge over Lorenzo Sonego ahead of their Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell round-of-16 clash on clay, where Rublev's superior baseline power and clay-court prowess give him trader consensus as the clear favorite. Both advanced in straight-sets openers yesterday—Rublev dispatched Mariano Navone 6-4, 7-5 with strong serving, while Sonego grinded past local hope Pedro Martinez Portero 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3 despite his modest 3-2 record this season and No. 66 ranking. Rublev, rebounding from a minor stomach issue in Monte Carlo two weeks ago, shows sharper recent form on the surface; Sonego's upset potential lies in his flat-hitting variety and prior clay win over Rublev at Roland Garros 2021, though best-of-three sets favor the higher-ranked Russian absent any late withdrawals or weather disruptions.
