Ben Dudman holds a narrow lead in trader consensus for the Meander Valley mayoral contest amid an open field created by incumbent Wayne Johnston’s April 2026 announcement that he would not seek re-election after eight years. With nominations for the October 2026 Tasmanian local government elections not yet open, the large number of potential candidates keeps probabilities tightly clustered, reflecting uncertainty over who will ultimately contest. Dudman, a sitting councillor who has signaled his mayoral bid, benefits from prior name recognition and community engagement on issues such as infrastructure and waste services. Johnston’s low price aligns with his confirmed withdrawal, while the broad spread across other listed options captures the pre-nomination phase where late entries or endorsements could shift positioning before postal ballots close in late October.
