**Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” dominates early 2027 Best Picture nomination conversations after its July 2026 release delivered strong critical scores near 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and more than $1.6 billion in worldwide box office.** Traders view its combination of prestige source material, technical ambition, and proven awards pedigree as the clearest path to a slot when nominations are announced January 21, 2027. Fall festival premieres at Venice, Telluride, and Toronto this month will introduce or elevate challengers including “Wild Horse Nine,” “La Bola Negra,” “Project Hail Mary,” and “Dune: Part Three,” whose late-year positioning and guild support could solidify additional nods. With eligibility deadlines approaching in November and most 2026 releases still unseen by voters, momentum remains fluid and highly sensitive to review aggregates, box-office trajectories, and early precursor signals.
