The tight clustering of probabilities across 190–214 Republican seats reflects structural uncertainty heading into the November 2026 midterms. Republicans enter with a narrow majority of roughly 218–220 seats, but historical patterns show the president's party typically loses ground, amplified by 59 open seats, dozens of toss-up and lean districts rated by Cook Political Report, and ongoing redistricting effects. Recent polling aggregates and consensus forecasts point to modest Democratic gains sufficient to flip control, yet outcomes hinge on turnout in swing districts, candidate recruitment, and late-cycle national mood. Shifts in key battlegrounds or unexpected primary results could widen the range by altering net seat movement.
