Amazon's February 2026 earnings guidance set capital expenditures at approximately $200 billion for the year, well above consensus estimates around $146 billion and reflecting heavy investment in AWS data centers, custom AI chips, and supporting infrastructure. Roughly 80% of the planned spend ties to artificial intelligence initiatives amid surging cloud demand. First-quarter 2026 results showed $43 billion in capex, primarily AWS-related, with no revision to the full-year target. Broader hyperscaler AI buildouts from peers like Microsoft and Google provide competitive context, while potential catalysts include upcoming quarterly updates that could signal adjustments based on utilization rates or supply constraints.
