Byron Donalds secured the Republican nomination for Florida governor in the August 18, 2026 primary with roughly 48 percent of the vote, defeating Lt. Gov. Jay Collins at 25 percent, James Fishback at 10 percent, and Paul Renner at 9 percent. President Trump’s early endorsement consolidated support among party voters and donors, enabling Donalds to raise over $90 million and dominate polling despite no endorsement from term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis. The result reflects Florida Republicans’ preference for a Trump-aligned candidate over DeSantis-linked or insurgent alternatives in a state that has trended strongly Republican. Donalds now advances to the November 3 general election against Democrat David Jolly, a former Republican congressman, where his margin in the primary may inform assessments of unified party turnout.
