This market will resolve according to the winner of the 2026 Kansas gubernatorial election. A candidate shall be considered to represent a party in the event that he or she is the nominee of the party in question. Candidates other than the Democratic or Republican nominee (e.g., Greens, Libertarian, independent) may be added at a later date. Candidates who run as independents will not be encompassed by the “Democrat” or “Republican” options regardless of any affiliation they may have with the party. The resolution source for this market is the Associated Press, Fox News, and NBC. This market will resolve once all three sources call the race for the same candidate. If all three sources haven’t called the race in this state for the same candidate, this market will resolve based on the official certification.**Republican nominee Ty Masterson holds a 65.5% implied probability over Democratic nominee Cindy Holscher at 35.0% in the Kansas governor race.** Kansas voters head to the polls on November 3, 2026, to replace term-limited Democratic incumbent Laura Kelly. Masterson, the Republican Senate president from Andover, secured his party’s nomination in the August 4 primary with backing from President Trump and defeated a crowded field that included Secretary of State Scott Schwab and Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt. Holscher, a state senator from suburban Johnson County, won the Democratic primary over Kelly-endorsed rival Ethan Corson. The state’s underlying Republican tilt—evident in double-digit Trump margins in 2024—combined with expert race ratings from Cook Political Report, Sabato’s Crystal Ball, and Inside Elections (all classifying the contest as Lean or Tilt Republican) supports the market’s positioning of the GOP nominee as the favorite. The Republican Governors Association has committed millions in advertising support for Masterson, targeting unaffiliated voters on property taxes, economic growth, and data-center policy. Holscher’s path relies on replicating Kelly’s ticket-splitting success in a state where Democrats have held the governorship for most of the past several decades despite Republican legislative control. A late-August Global Strategic Group poll of likely voters showed Holscher ahead by one point (47-46), within the survey’s four-point margin of error, underscoring the competitive nature of the race. Both candidates are actively courting unaffiliated voters through forums on taxes and workforce issues, with the November outcome likely hinging on turnout among those independents in a state that has not seen a third-party gubernatorial candidate qualify for the ballot.
