South Carolina’s 2026 gubernatorial contest features an open seat after term limits end Republican Gov. Henry McMaster’s tenure, with Attorney General Alan Wilson securing the Republican nomination in a June runoff and state Rep. Jermaine Johnson winning the Democratic primary. The state’s consistent Republican voting patterns, including a strong 2024 presidential margin, combined with nonpartisan ratings classifying the race as Solid or Safe Republican, underpin the market’s heavy weighting toward a GOP victory. Traders reflect this baseline through the current consensus, which treats the outcome as likely absent major disruption. Potential shifts could arise from late developments such as a significant scandal, nominee health issues, or unusually high Democratic turnout in a state that has elected only Republican governors since 2002.

A candidate shall be considered to represent a party in the event that he or she is the nominee of the party in question. Candidates other than the Democratic or Republican nominee (e.g., Greens, Libertarian, independent) may be added at a later date.
Candidates who run as independents will not be encompassed by the “Democrat” or “Republican” options regardless of any affiliation they may have with the party.
The resolution source for this market is the Associated Press, Fox News, and NBC. This market will resolve once all three sources call the race for the same candidate. If all three sources haven’t called the race in this state for the same candidate, this market will resolve based on the official certification.
