Kevin Warsh assumed the Federal Reserve chairmanship following Senate confirmation and oversaw his first FOMC meeting on June 17, 2026, where the committee held the federal funds rate steady at 3.5–3.75 percent in a unanimous 12–0 vote. Elevated inflation, running well above the 2 percent target and at multi-year highs amid solid growth and stable labor markets, has kept policy on hold throughout 2026. Warsh’s initial statement omitted forward guidance, launched internal task forces on communications and the balance sheet, and reaffirmed the dual mandate focus on price stability without signaling near-term easing. Traders assign near-certain odds against a cut at this first meeting because persistent price pressures and the new chair’s emphasis on institutional review create high barriers to immediate action; only unexpectedly sharp disinflation or acute economic weakness within the resolution window could alter that consensus.
