South Korea’s June 2026 headline CPI print of 3.2% year-over-year, the highest since late 2023, has anchored trader positioning around the 2.7–2.9% and 2.4–2.6% annual average ranges for the full year. Official forecasts reinforce this clustering: the Ministry of Economy and Finance lifted its 2026 projection to 2.6% in July while the Bank of Korea, after hiking its base rate 25 basis points to 2.75%, now sees headline inflation at 2.7%. Persistent pressures from elevated petroleum costs, a weaker won, and pass-through to transport and food categories continue to outweigh easing signals from semiconductor exports and potential oil-price relief later in the year. Upcoming July CPI and further Bank of Korea communications remain key near-term catalysts for shifts in these market-implied probabilities.
