Recent August CPI data showed headline inflation rising 0.4% month-over-month and 3.4% year-over-year, with core advancing 0.3% m/m amid a gasoline surge of 3.9% and broader energy gains tied to geopolitical tensions. These factors, alongside firm shelter costs and rebounding goods prices, underpin trader positioning around 0.4–0.6% for the September monthly print, as reflected in the dispersed Polymarket odds. Cleveland Fed nowcasts point to roughly 0.37% headline growth, but volatility in energy and airfares creates swing potential. The September 15–16 FOMC meeting and any further commodity moves will likely influence near-term sentiment ahead of the mid-October release.
