Recent polls ahead of New Zealand’s November 2026 general election show a tight contest between the two largest parties under the MMP system, with Labour frequently recording narrow leads over National in August surveys from 1News-Verian and Talbot Mills, while Curia had National slightly ahead. This positioning supports trader consensus that Labour holds the stronger chance of securing the most party votes and seats, placing National in second. Support for minor parties including the Opportunity Party near the 5% threshold, NZ First, ACT, Greens, and Te Pāti Māori fragments the vote and influences bloc calculations without altering the major-party ordering in most models. Incumbent performance under the National-led coalition and preferred prime minister ratings remain key variables that could shift margins before election day.
